Text: Exodus 18:1-27
Last week, we talked about being called, prepared, and sent. The enemy tries to stop/hinder our calling with:
FDA - Fear, doubt, and anxiety
God's method:
PDA - Plans, developes, and puts into action.
God called Moses to delivery the Children of Israel from slavery in Egypt. When he accepted that call, it grew strong and passionate inside him. Seeing one of his brothers being abused by an Egyptian, he moved to stop it. The situation escalated, and he ended up killing the Egyptian.
The results of this encounter had him running away from Egypt. Most things we have a passion to do we start off doing wrong. This usually discourages us from continuing
When Moses finally secures the release of the Children of Israel, he finds himself in the position of judging the people. When his father-in-law visits and sees him doing this all day, he pulls Moses aside and gives him some excellent advice. He warns Moses he will wear out both himself and the people. He tells him to select people who will judge over 10's, 50's, etc. Only the hard cases would be brought to him.
Moses could have said, "I'm the one called, prepared and anointed. Who are you to advise me?" Instead, he saw the wisdom of this approach and adopted it.
How do we know good counsel from bad counsel? The Bible is full of examples of both. To hear the entire message, we invite you to visit our website and click on the Listen Tab. You can listen online, download it to your MP3 player, or podcast.
